The role of universities in community service from the standpoint of the faculty members: Al balqa applied university as a model

The study aimed generally to identify the points of view of the teaching staff in Ajloun University College regarding the role Al Balqa Applied University plays in community service. The subject group of the study includes all members of the teaching staff at Ajloun University college for the academic year 2009 .To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher developed a questionnaire consisting of twenty four items that have been verified as true and consistent. The study concluded that, from the University Faculty's point of view, Al Balqa Applied University's role in community service is of moderate significance. It also revealed a gender-related variable, which was of statistical significance at level (0.05) in favor of females; other differences were due to the experience-related variable, at significance level of (0.05), which were in favor of male members, who have varied years of experience (less than 5 years), (6-9 years), (more than 10 years), tilting in favor of the latter, i.e. 10 and more years of experience. Further differences with a significance level of (0.05) were found to be related to the academic rank variable, and were in favor of ranks less than associate professor. In light of its findings, the study offered a number of recommendations.
