Antimicrobial activity of zinc oxide eugenol: Standardization of Iraqi made material

Zinc oxide-eugenol is widely used in the dental profession as a temporary restorative material, cavity liner, luting agent. This material possesses some antimicrobial effect. The aim of this study is to evaluatein vitro.the an.timicrobial effect of an Iraqimadezincoxidepowderand liquid. Two other cements were also used in this study, which are S. S. White cavity lining and Kalzinol. Four microorganisms were collected from patients treated at the dental clinic of the College of Dentistry at Mosul University. The microorganisms were purified before use. The result of this study showed that the Iraqi material is effective against gram negative microorganisms, while the material showed no effect on staphylococcus aureus. The Iraqi material showed the same germicidal effect as the other two materials on streptococcus pyogenes.
