Abstract

After any periodontal surgical procedures, the involved tissues are considered as surgically wounded sites. There is a subsequent surge of cellular and molecular events that initiate the wound repair in the surgical area. Many discoveries have contributed to our understanding of the biology of wound healing. The role of antibiotics assisting wound healing still remains unclear. Many antibiotics including azithromycin, are being studied about their possible role in aiding wound healing. Currently, progress in understanding the biology of periodontal tissues has provided us with surgical procedures that promote regeneration of periodontal tissues.
