Types of Photocarcinoma

One of the most significant health problems in the world is photocarcinoma, which includes a large diversity of skin cancer, and the process of its formation is a consequence of exposure to the UV radiation produced by sunlight. Skin cancers are of different categories, and they are explored in this chapter in a comprehensive manner. These are actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. All types are discussed in detail with particular emphasis of its pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, and up-to-date management of type, their molecular mechanisms, their genetic peculiarities, and changes in cells. The uncommon forms of photocarcinoma, like Merkel cell, sebaceous gland, and sweat gland carcinoma, have also been addressed in this study and, thus, give a good insight into their peculiarities and treatment plans. The treatment of this carcinoma was aimed at the current treatment methods that lie between the old-fashioned surgical methods and the new advanced approaches, like immunotherapy and targeted molecule medications. The chapter describes rational methods of sun protection and the need to test the skin regularly by pointing out the dire need for prevention and screening. It also highlights the significance of taking into consideration the available epidemiological data and risk factors prior to clinical decision-making. This chapter is finally terminated by covering the topic of new therapies and research directions of photocarcinoma treatment.
