Abstract

People’s nutritional consumption is strongly influenced by biological, social, and psychological factors, which leads to complicated health problems. According to the scientific advantages of functional foods and supplements, individuals may now choose from a variety of fermented foods and drinks. The properties of probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, and paraprobiotics are discussed in this overview along with their importance to diet and long-term fitness. Numerous symbiotic products, which are complimentary blends of chosen, defined probiotic strains and prebiotic substrates, have drawn purchasers’ attention in the nutraceutical sector recently. Probiotics and symbiotic products are distinct from traditional fermented foods eaten in many cultures, even if they might be thought of as possible biotics in food. Due to its production utilizing seasonally raw ingredients accessible from local agricultural methods, fermented foods are affordable and a staple diet in a number of nations. The majority of the biotics mentioned in this section are meant to increase the number of good microbes in the gut intestine, which has been shown to be crucial for the microbiome-gut-brain axis, which affects the functioning of the vagus nerve.
