Abstract
The growth of human gut microbiota is critical for, the metabolism and synthesis of short-chain fatty acids, nutrition absorption and vitamins, resistance to pathogenic microorganisms, and the regulation of a healthy immune system. Various diseases like inflammatory bowel disease, malignancies, obesity, asthma, or mental problems are related to a microbiota imbalance. Synbiotics are a combination of probiotics (good bacteria for your gut) and prebiotics (non-digestible fibers that help to grow these bacteria). They are specifically mixtures of these two products that work synergistically in the digestive tract. Synbiotics work by allowing prebiotics to assist probiotics to grow in your intestines. This may assist to balance the gut bacteria, which is beneficial to your gut health, immune system, and metabolism. Many commercial probiotic products are now accepted to be relatively safe and could be utilized as a supplement for tumor prevention and treatment. Synbiotics have also been found to reduce post-operative inflammation in a number of cancer patients. In this book chapter, the underlying mechanism of gastric cancer or therapeutic effects of synbiotics in gastric cancer have been updated. However, additional clinical trials are required to prove synbiotics as a viable alternative cancer treatment.
