Abstract
This chapter explores the vital role of data governance in ensuring the integrity, reliability, and trustworthiness of Business Intelligence (BI) systems. It provides a conceptual review based on secondary sources, including academic journals, industry standards, policy papers, and global case studies published between 2013 and 2024. Using thematic content analysis, it synthesizes best practices and core elements of successful governance frameworks such as standardization, metadata management, role-based access, and compliance alignment. Findings reveal that robust governance improves decision accuracy, regulatory readiness, and data utilization, while mitigating silos and reinforcing trust. Leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and governance automation tools are highlighted as enablers. The chapter offers both scholarly and practical perspectives, presenting governance as a continuous strategic initiative.
