Abstract
Silicon nitride (SiN) is an emerging material for dental implant applications. Silicon nitride has shown excellent mechanical, physical, thermal, structural, and biological properties highlighting its potential for dental and medical implants applications. The antibacterial surface and the ability of the surface modifications are the most clinically significant and remarkable properties. SiN dental implants have exhibited mechanical properties approximating to bone tissues thereby, reducing stress shielding compared with titanium implants. The aim of the present chapter is to critically analyze the relevant literature and summarize the outcome of ongoing research on SiN materials in the field of implant dentistry.
