Abstract

Transformative learning is a concept recognized in education, including architectural education. In architecture and design education, transformative learning can challenge conventional thinking and encourage students to think critically about their designs’ social, economic, and environmental impact. This study explores the impact of transformative learning on student understanding and performance through case studies focusing on practical and theoretical lessons. Research outcomes are designed to increase students’ knowledge of the subject matter by creating a learning environment and assessments that encourage critical thinking, reflection, and self-awareness. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluation techniques were used to evaluate transformative learning applications. The research findings showed that by incorporating transformative learning strategies into architectural education in both theoretical and studio-based courses, the student's performance improved, students’ satisfaction with the courses was high, and they were able to develop a more holistic understanding of the profession and be helped to become more effective students and professionals.
