Abstract

Burn injuries represent a significant clinical challenge due to the skin’s complex structure and essential barrier function. This chapter explores the evolving landscape of regenerative therapies aimed at enhancing skin repair and restoring function after burn trauma. The chapter focuses on the therapeutic potential of stem cell-based interventions in vitro and in vivo models. Various stem cell sources are evaluated for their regenerative capacity and immunomodulatory effects. The chapter also reviews current clinical trials applying these technologies in burn patients, focusing on safety profiles, efficacy outcomes, and translational challenges. Advances in biomaterials, including scaffolds, hydrogels, and bioengineered skin substitutes, are discussed in relation to their role in enhancing stem cell delivery and integration. Finally, the chapter addresses the regulatory landscape governing the clinical use of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and highlights emerging directions in the field. Collectively, these insights offer a thorough analysis of current strategies and future directions in regenerative medicine for burn care.
