Abstract
Family, an utmost primary source of individuals, aids them in experiencing novel behavioral patterns. Individual's familial interactions enable them to acquire various social skills. However, manifesting behavioral changes develop social competence among children transitioning to adulthood. Therefore, the research identifies family life quality and social competence relationship, per the perception of adolescents. It further identifies the roles of social workers as indicators among adolescents. The research adopted a quantitative method utilizing the Family Life Quality (QFoL) and Social Competence Scales. The study was performed in four government secondary schools located in Shibin el-Qanater, Egypt, consisting of 285 adolescents (123 males and 162 females). The sample was collected between January 2024 and September 2024. The research findings stipulate a positive relationship between family life quality and adolescents’ social competence. The dimensional levels of family life quality as per adolescents’ perceptions were high, while medium in social competence. The results highlighted no significant differences between male/female average scores on the family life quality and social competence scales. A significant relationship was determined in one of the demographic variable, i.e., adolescent's position in the family across quality of family life and social competence scale. The research concludes that most adolescents perceive a positive quality of family life and acquire social competence skills from their parents.
