Abstract

This paper presents a tool that automates the task performed by advisors to determine, in the higher education environment, the potential set of courses that should be offered in an upcoming semester. Academic advisors usually perform this task manually. This is considered as time-consuming, due to the repetitive process that is to be executed for each student. Moreover, the information provided by the tool allows Departments Heads to predict faculty load and the eventual need for adjunct faculty. The tool was applied to determine the set of courses to be offered in the following semester for all students enrolled in the Information Systems program. Additional information was also obtained, such as the potential number of students per course and the course list for each student.
