Abstract

Neuroinflammation is becoming acknowledged as a significant contributor to the onset of depression. The process entails the activation of immune cells in the brain, resulting in the secretion of inflammatory chemicals. These chemicals can impair cerebral function and exacerbate depressive symptoms, including alterations in mood, sleep, and appetite. Stress, infections, and autoimmune diseases can induce neuroinflammation. Research indicates that neuroinflammation may serve not only as a consequence of depression but also as a contributing element that elevates the chance of its development. Many studies have reported the involvement of many inflammatory pathways like NF-κB, MAPK, TLRs, JAK/STAT and so on in depressive animal models. The investigation of neuroinflammation in depression is continuing and possesses considerable potential.
