Abstract

Biosensing technology promises to revolutionize how we measure key diagnostic, environmental, safety-related, and other technological parameters. Nanocelluloses are one of nature’s most exciting nanomaterials that attracted attention in biomaterials, engineering, biomedicine, optoelectronic devices, and sensing technologies. Therefore, biosensors use nanocellulose-based platforms to simplify the process and boost the overall efficiency and improve the critical features, such as sensitivity, specificity, and reproductivity. This chapter will address nanocelluloses-based systems, including their uses in reusable optical/electrical sensors for healthcare services, diagnostic tools, environmental surveillance, food quality control, forensic investigation, and physical sensing. Nanocelluloses offer unique properties due to its biodegradability, durability, renewability, market viability, low density, moderate porosity, optical clarity, as well as remarkable thermal, mechanical, and physicochemical properties.
