High Code Density Orientation Insensitive Chipless RFID Tag for Future Wireless Communication

Abstract

In this future communication paradigm, we introduce a Chipless Radio Frequency Identification (CRFID) tag designed for high code density, orientation insensitivity, and compactness. The tag geometry, constructed by superimposing two orthogonal ellipses in a nested loop fashion, encodes a 24-bit sequence within the Radar Cross Section (RCS) response spanning from 4.8 to 14.8 GHz. Fabricated on a 1.524 mm Roger's substrate, the tag measures 1.4 × 1.4 cm2, achieving a remarkable code density of 12.24 bits/cm2 and a spectral efficiency of 2.4 bits/GHz. With its compact form, orientation insensitivity, and high code density, this tag holds promise for future identification, communication & sensing diverse scenarios.
