Abstract

Hemoperitoneum is defined as the presence of blood in the peritoneal cavity. Trauma is the commonest cause of death in individuals in the age group of 1 to 60 years. The Indian fatality rates for trauma are 20 times that for developed countries. The trend in the management of hem peritoneum is changing. The non-operative management in solid visceral injuries is gaining wider acceptance. Non-operative management is feasible in developing countries despite the enormous challenges. This prospective observational study of 93 consecutive patients of Hemoperitoneum, was undertaken in Krishna Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Karad during the period between December 2018 to June 2020. These patients were studied in detail from admission up to discharge or death and on follow-up. Hemoperitoneum has the highest incidence of 32.26% in the 21-30 age group in patients admitted during the study period. There were 81 men (87.10%) and 12 women (12.90%) in this study. In our series, the most common cause of hemoperitoneum was car accident (51.61%), followed by falling (22.58%), after violence (16.13%) and other causes 9.68%. The liver and liver have the highest incidence of injury. While there is a different way to watch more, this is only good in the context of repeat and speed dial. The only way for the surgeon to reduce the hemoperitoneum mortality rate is to stay calm and make quick and decisive decisions before sending the patient to the operating table. For this reason, time is very important for patients whose lives are in danger.
