Abstract

Objective: This study aims to investigate health literacy instruments explicitly developed for use in the elderly population with chronic disease. Methods: This is a literature review to identify the articles from the following databases: PubMed, EBSCO, Proquest, and Willey Online Library published from January 1971 to December 2019. PICO elements are used to guide the searching process. Result: 9 articles met the inclusion criteria. Five instruments were developed to measure health literacy in the general concept of chronic disease; meanwhile, four other measures HL in diabetes and hypertension. Conclusion: This review has not been able to identify the quality of the instrument and the best tool to use in measuring health literacy in the elderly with chronic disease. However, this review can describe several instruments that can be used for the elderly population with chronic disease.
