Abstract

Telemedicine has become a major force in healthcare, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patient care has altered as a result of this change in the way care is provided since digital platforms now enable remote consultations, monitoring, and treatment. Regardless of time, place, or socioeconomic situation, new telecommunications technologies aid in the delivery of healthcare services. Numerous fields, including radiology, psychology, dermatology, and the treatment of chronic illnesses, use telemedicine. It provides answers to healthcare shortages in both rural and urban areas. This technology employs a number of techniques, including store-and-forward systems, mobile health apps, remote patient monitoring, and real-time video conversations. Telemedicine has several advantages, such as increased patient adherence, reduced costs, and enhanced access to healthcare; yet, it also has drawbacks, such as technological constraints, privacy problems, and regulatory complications. Significant improvements in clinical results, patient happiness, and healthcare resource utilization have been demonstrated by the use of telemedicine. According to available data, telemedicine will continue to develop by integrating sophisticated sensors, artificial intelligence, and integrated health information systems. While guaranteeing equitable access for all patient groups, it is crucial to address infrastructure requirements, regulatory requirements, and healthcare professional training for a successful implementation.
