Abstract

The rapid and wide growth of usage of the Internet almost everywhere in the world has lead to a remarkable increase of electronic commerce. E-commerce is growing quickly in terms of both business-to-business and business-to- consumer sectors. It shakes the foundation of most industries by leading into entirely new kinds of businesses, and directly affects both our careers and the way we live. One of the most significant changes is the manner in which companies conduct business. Precisely, how they manage their resources, connect and communicate with customers, and negotiate and outsource from suppliers. In many cases, the management of enterprise resources is based on e-commerce systems and applications. E-commerce may be defined in a variety of ways: as a technological tool for web development, as an online transaction between a buyer and a seller, or as an activity that adds value to business customers and consumers. The main goal of this chapter is to explain the design of an e-commerce application for online sale system. Designing an e-commerce system provides a detailed description and analysis of e-commerce business models, including their components, clas- sification, and performance results. This e-commerce system can maintain customer account for frequent buyers; however, it is not compulsory to create account before transaction. It keeps record for all transaction done by the customer; however, the system does not store any financial infor- mation like credit card number, bank details, etc. All payment processing are done by the payment gateway. The proposed e-commerce system is the ‘PayPal payment gateway’ to handle all payment-related processing. A system should be placed with security features to handle different security threats like SQL injection, cross scripting, and spamming. This chapter describes the functional and nonfunctional requirements of the e-commerce system (release 1.0). This document is intended for the usage of the project team members that will help them to implement and verify the correct functioning of the system. In other words, all requirements specified here are of high priority and committed for e-commerce system (release 1.0).
