Abstract

Dendrimers are tree-like highly branched polymeric architect with versatile biopharmaceutical properties, including well-defined nanostructure, excellent solubility, monodispersity, high density of surface functionality, and limited immunogenicity. These characteristics attracted considerable attention toward dendrimers in various fields, especially in the biomedical sciences. Many dendrimer-based systems have been developed for different biomedical applications such as drug delivery, gene delivery, sensors, and solubility enhancers, along with other applications such as veterinary vaccines and cosmetics. This chapter provides a general introduction to dendrimers, their properties, synthesis methods, and various applications in the biomedical field.
