Abstract
Introduction and Aim: Nanomedicine is a rapidly developing and promising field that makes the best use of inert metals such as silver, gold and platinum to synthesize metallic nanoparticles with high therapeutic potential for various biomedical applications. Green synthesis of nanoparticles is found to be safer. The aim of the study was to prepare and characterize Coriander oleoresin mediated silver-nanoparticles and to evaluate its antioxidant property. Materials and Methods: Preparation of C. oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles was done by adding 0.5ml of the extract to 1mM of silver nitrate and later it was placed in the magnetic stirrer for 2 days until the visual observation of color change. The formation of the nanoparticle was confirmed by UV-Visible spectroscopy and size was analyzed by TEM. The DPPH radical scavenging was done to find the antioxidant potential of the synthesized silver nanoparticles. Results: The UV-Visible spectrophotometer showed a peak at 400 nm, which confirmed the formation of the silver nanoparticles synthesis. TEM analysis showed spherical shaped nanoparticles ranging from 5-45 nm. C. oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles exhibited significant antioxidant activity. It showed a dose dependent antioxidant activity with a maximum inhibition of 88 % at 50µl compared to ascorbic acid, 92%. Conclusion: A simple, stable and eco-friendly technique of biosynthesizing AgNPs was successfully developed using C. oleoresin. It can be comprehended that the C. oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles may be a better choice for chronic diseases such as atherosclerosis, cancers, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory conditions and cardiovascular diseases with overproduction of free radicals which causes oxidative damage.
