Abstract

Autonomous systems are an integral part of our present and future. One such example is autonomous or self-driving cars, which, as their name suggests, are capable of sensing their environment and navigating towards their destinations without human intervention. Such vehicles are already roaming the streets with pioneering and ambitious projects like Google's Self-Driving Car. In this paper, we discuss our efforts to build a prototype for an automatic parking system where a self-driving car collaborates with an intelligent parking management system to determine the best spot for the car to park and compute the «best» path to it. The path is computed to minimize power consumption. Our experiments show that the power-aware path planning algorithm is likely to save noticeable amount of power.
