Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) may alter dental epidemiological surveys by improving data collecting efficiency and diagnostic accuracy, as shown in this comprehensive study. Our multi-center study of 15,847 participants from 127 dental practices found that AI-powered platforms detect caries with 94.2% accuracy and reduce data collection time by 73%, establishing a new paradigm for population-level oral health surveillance. Examiner variability, data collection time, and scalability are issues with traditional dental epidemiology studies. AI can automate data gathering and analysis in large-scale oral health surveillance. versus compare an AI-powered platform for dental epidemiological survey data collection and analysis versus manual techniques. A multi-center prospective study was conducted in 127 English dental clinics from January 2023 to December 2024. In the study, 15,847 people aged 18–75 participated. An AI-enabled mobile app using deep learning techniques collected dental exam data automatically.
