title = "A color recognition system for the visually impaired people",
abstract = "The development of assistive technologies for visually impaired people are increasing as computer systems advanced. Such systems are needed to enhance the quality of life for the visually impaired people. A major challenge facing the visually impaired is that of recognizing colors. The perception of colors is very important in interacting with people and the environment. This paper presents the design and implementation of a hardware-based solution that can help the visually impaired people recognize colors, interact, and take decisions based on their perception of colors. The system can detect a given color and generate an acoustic representation for its HSV values. A set of preliminary experiments on the new system has been performed with the help of visually impaired and blindfolded volunteers. The experimental data showed that the proposed design is easy to use with average training time for nine minutes and 85\% of success rate.",
