Abstract
We present the first-ever design of a digitally coded Dynamic Metasurface Antenna (DMA) at 60 GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) band. First, a novel fully addressable complementary electric inductive-capacitive (CELC) metamaterial element is designed and embedded with PIN diodes for 1-bit control. Then 16-element 1-D DMA array is designed to synthesize a variety of beam patterns by digital coding using an external FPGA. The proposed 60 GHz DMA prototype allows customized beamforming and signal processing, making it suitable for beyond 5G and 6G applications, such as ISAC, holographic communication, sensing, and imaging, mmWave wireless smart industries as well as contactless healthcare monitoring and sensing.
